by Phillipa Turnbull

A dainty baby squirrel, sitting in a woodland glade. This shy red squirrel is now a rare native in the English countryside, but was a popular captive pet amongst the aristocracy during the 17th Century, and was depicted on portraits as well as crewel work during this time.

How we give back

We are passionate about keeping embroidery alive for future generations and supporting the talented artisans and dedicated technicians involved in their care.

To do this, where possible, we donate a percentage of the proceeds of the sale of our kits to the castle, country house, or institution that the original embroidery belongs to.

With this donation, we specifically support the care and safe-housing of the historic embroidery, as well as the training of staff involved in its upkeep.

I have a genuine appreciation for this delightful little kit! The project is straightforward and can be completed relatively quickly, making it an excellent choice for beginners. It also serves as a seamless transition for those who have just finished a larger piece and wish to engage in a less demanding project. And who doesn't love a little squirrel?!
