Rachel Kay-Shuttleworth and the Power of Creative Expression

Born in 1886 into a life of wealth and privilege, Rachel, like most young women of means, she was taught to embroider from a young age, and this avocation became her passion in life. More than that, she came to understand embroidery as a form of creative expression that had the power to improve individuals and society. 

Join Victoria as she explores how Rachel Kay-Shuttleworth's took this passion and combined it with her role as a leader in the Girl Guides to become an advocate for social welfare, mental health, unemployment, and young people.

Victoria Martinez

Victoria Martinez is a historian and writer known for her blog A Bit of History , where she highlights lesser-known stories, especially those involving marginalized historical figures and events. Her work sheds light on the contributions of women, minorities, and overlooked activists, showing their lasting impact on society.

After transitioning from a public relations career, she focused on writing and historical research, particularly in women's and social history. She has published several books and numerous articles, with a specific interest in 19th and early 20th-century history. Martínez earned her PhD in history at Linköping University and serves on the editorial board of Collections: A Journal for Museum and Archives Professionals .
