Learn more about the lady that inspired this years Festival, as well as a chance to take a peak at the vast and diverse textile collection at Gawthorpe Hall. Rachel Key Shuttleworth

Rachel Kay Shuttleworth (1886–1967) was a British textile artist, educator, and collector. She dedicated her life to preserving and promoting textile arts and crafts, amassing one of the UK’s largest collections of textiles, now housed at Gawthorpe Hall in Lancashire.

Rachel was passionate about traditional craftsmanship and founded sewing and craft classes to preserve skills and empower women, particularly during times of social change. Her collection includes embroidery, lace, costumes, and other textiles, showcasing cultural history and artistry. Rachel's legacy continues through the Gawthorpe Textiles Collection, which inspires artists and crafters worldwide.
