Gawthorpe Oak Tree & Snail Kit

by Phillipa Turnbull

The Gawthorpe Oak Tree & Snail design is an oft-repeated rural scene featured on the pelmets of Rachel Kay Shuttleworth’s famous bed hangings made for her beautiful 16th-century tester bed given to her by her parents on her 21st birthday.

This design is the perfect introduction to the Gawthorpe Crewel Work range, providing a sample of some of Rachel's favourite techniques in the Arts & Crafts style we are so fond of.

How we give back

We are passionate about keeping embroidery alive for future generations and supporting the talented artisans and dedicated technicians involved in their care.

To do this, where possible, we donate a percentage of the proceeds of the sale of our kits to the castle, country house, or institution that the original embroidery belongs to.

With this donation, we specifically support the care and safe-housing of the historic embroidery, as well as the training of staff involved in its upkeep.
