Summer fairs are a great opportunity to share our needlework skills by entering the local craft competitions. This summer we asked for your photos of your crewel work company kits that you had entered into summer fairs either this year or in previous years.
The marquees for our local show, Appleby-in-Westmorland went up in August and around the town and nearby villages, all ages began putting the final stitches into their showpieces to be displayed and judged in the big white tent. It is so pleasing to see so many young people entering the craft tent competitions that it gives us hope these great skills will continue for generations to come.
We were delighted to receive photographs of Indiana's Hendricks County Fair Awards from Marci Alvis-Slinski, Guild Leader and Crewel Instructor from Brownsburg, IN.
Debbie Dillow won the Blue Ribbon & Grand Champion in Needlework with one of our designs, the Glamis Crown, Rose & Thistle (prize winner shown above and kit shown below). Well done Debbie, what a beautiful piece of crewel work.
Debbie also showed the the Mellerstain Parrots, which she stitched in her choice of stitches & colours. This piece was exhibited in a juried Art Show known as Reflected Light Art Show in Avon, IN on July 19, 2019 and went onto be exhibited in the 2019 Indiana State Fair and awarded an Honorable Mention.
Congratulations to Lou Ann Tomlinson who received two awards in the show and also double congratulations go to Denise Mattox who was awarded Blue Ribbon in Needlework for her beautiful Tappis Tree's "Morning Glories" and a second for her Antique Irish Linen Tea Towel embellished in Miniature Crewel Flowers.
If you are entering your needlework into your local show we'd love to see your photographs and share your skills and successes.
