We have been thinking hard at the CWC about how we should build up to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding. After all, it will be the last major Royal bash for a while (apart from a potential coronation that is!) so we better make the most of it! We're well covered for viewing buddies since it falls rather conveniently on the final Saturday of our All England Needlework Tour (no teaching on that day ladies!). We'll have lunch in Bath then our hotel is setting up a private viewing room with a big screen just for us. So we're well covered on that front.
But we're still missing a way to commemorate the occasion!
From what we know of Harry and Meghan, it's fair to assume that extravagant gifts will not be well received. Even material gifts of any kind are discouraged. Charitable donations is their bag and we've got this well covered. Our donation pot from the sales of the Marriage Pillow and Glamis Crown is building up nicely and will be sent to the Princes' charitable foundation Heads Together shortly after the wedding day. But a wedding wouldn't be a wedding without a bit of embroidery.
So we're launching a Royal Wedding Stitch-a-long!
How to take part
1. Claim 20% off a Glamis Crown Kit, Starter Set and Printed Linen. Use code 8J8KW (offer valid until 19th May).
2. Tune in to our news page for updates and videos from Phillipa starting next week during our Spring Residential Retreat.
3. Start stitching and post your progress to our Facebook page with the hashtag #royalweddingstitchalong.
By the wedding day, we will all hopefully have a beautiful Royal cushion to primly sit upon as we watch the ceremony live on TV. And as we lay our stitches, we can think of each other, connected through crewel work, sharing the love and sending happy thoughts all the way to Windsor.
The Glamis Crown, Rose & Thistle design has Royalty in its DNA. It was designed and originally stitched by Harry's Great, Great Grandmother, Cecilia Countess of Strathmore. Such close ties with Royalty make it perfect for this most regal purpose.
As a final touch, when we've finished our cushion, it will be packed up and sent to Glamis Castle to be received on behalf of Harry & Meghan and to be displayed alongside HRH The Queen Mother's bedspread and bedhead at Glamis Castle.
