We are counting down to our next adventures with excitement as we make the final checks and preparations for our Scottish Highlands and Islands Tour in August and All England Tour Part II in September.
During the All England Tour we will visit Hardwick Hall, a fabulous stately home on so many embroiderers' bucket list. Phillipa has arranged a private visit on the day Hardwick is closed to the public, which will be very special in a place that is usually heaving with visitors.
Phillipa has called on her long-time friend and colleague Jacqui Hyman the archivist, conservator and curator to lecture about the incredible historic sampler collection at Ackworth School, and she has organised a private visit the following to see the collection to the school. In the vaults below York minster, curator Pippa Foulds will show us the medieval and later vestments she curates and conserves.
She has called arranged special welcome and lecture about Lord Burghley, his rather grand home and the Court of Queen Elizabeth before we the house. This is just a taste of the special visits she has arranged for this tour and she is as meticulous in ensuring the accommodation, food and embroidery projects are equally enchanting.
In August we will take off to the north to explore the Highlands and Islands of wonderful Scotland. Married to Scotsman Richard McGregor, who is a proud member of his clan, Phillipa is now part of Clan Gregor family, which as you can imagine has particular advantages when hosting a Scottish Highlands Tour!
On day one of the tour for example, Gregor Clan Chief Sir Malcolm MacGregor will welcome us to Scotland and dive into the history of tartan and Scottish identity during an inaugural lecture.
Many more treats await us as we sweep through the dramatic Highlands visiting castles and delving into their needlework collections with Phillipa Turnbull and Meredith Hahn Willet, finally arriving to the West Coast and the Isles of Skye, Iona and Mull.
Due to two last minute cancellations, we have a place available for one person (or two if you share a twin room) on both these retreats. Please get in touch with us quickly to secure these places if you are interested.
